Donald Henry

Donald E. “Don” Henry, 81, of Geneseo, formerly of Galesburg and the Quad Cities, died at 12:12 p.m. Thursday, September 15, 2022, in Allure of Geneseo.

He was born August 30, 1941, in Galesburg at the former Cottage Hospital, the son of Donald Aaron and Lucille Marie (Coakley) Henry. He married Mary Kay Mathers on June 28, 1964, in Galesburg. She preceded him in death on May 5, 2005. He later married Sharon A. Scranton in 2007 in Clinton, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife of 15 years, Sharon; children, Elizabeth (Brent) Mosley of Bettendorf, Christopher (Jill) Henry of Olathe, Kansas, Michele (Timothy) DeVine of Clinton, Iowa, William (Ninette) Whitney of Grimes, Iowa, and Richard (Tammy) Whitney of Des Moines; grandchildren, Brant, Braden (Melinda), Brendon, Kate, Connor, Nathan, Erika (Jarred), Rebecca, Hannah, Rachel, and Cara; and a brother, William B. (Lori) Henry of Missouri. In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.

Don grew up in Galesburg where he was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and graduated from Galesburg High School. He went on to attend Augustana University, then the University of Illinois, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.

His working career consisted of being an Electrical Engineer and General Manager of Systems Division at Struthers Dunn Inc. in Bettendorf. He then was the Founder, President, and Partner in Uticor Technology Inc., also in Bettendorf. Following Uticor, Don was the Director of the Northwestern Regional Entrepreneurship Center before retirement.

In his spare time, Don enjoyed photography, woodworking, drawing, and painting.

Graveside service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2022, in the Henderson Cemetery, Henderson, Illinois. Rev. Dr. Carrie Carnes will officiate. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Shelter of the Donor’s Choice. Hinchliff-Pearson-West Funeral Directors and Cremation Services of Galesburg is honored to serve the family.
