LANCASTER, Calif. - Joseph Filich, 73, Lancaster, Calif., passed away on Dec. 7, 2013, at home.
Joe was born April 20, 1940, in Galesburg to Serafin and Mildred Filich. He moved to California in 1959 where he met and married Flora "Evalyn" Shanklin on July 8, 1961.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Evalyn (Aug. 8, 2009) and his daughter, Shawndel Hungerford (June 12, 1993); his parents; a sister and brother-in-law, Pauline and Bill Reeves; and a brother and sister-in-law, Dan and Mary (Stromgren) Filich of California.
He is survived by his son, Joseph Douglas, and son-in-law, Dennis (Marie) Hungerford of Lancaster, Calif.; two sisters, Lucille Thielbert of Galesburg and Suzanne (Bruce) Smith of Fort Myers, Fla.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Joe worked for Rockwell/Boeing Aircraft in Palmdale, Calif., retiring after 25 years of service. He graduated from Corpus Christi High School, Galesburg in 1958. He was a member of both AV quilt guilds (AVQA and HCQG). He enjoyed making quilts for Prayers and Squares Ministry and quilts for the Veterans that he sent to Germany for the troops.
