In Memory

James Chamberlain

James Edward Chamberlain, 64, of Lake Forest, died April 16 at home. He was born Oct. 11, 1941 in Macomb, Ill. and grew up in Galesburg, Ill.

Mr. Chamberlain earned a bachelor and masters degrees in industrial land auto-motive education at Bradley University. His entire teach-ing career was spent at Township High School District 113 (Deerfield and Highland Park High Schools) from 1963-1997.

Over the course of 34 years, he taught all phases of industrial arts classes, consumer economics, and developed a course in physics technology.

He felt strongly about teaching skills which could develop into careers for students choosing not to attend college.

He was also a member of the Rondout School District Board in the mid 1970's.

His favorite hobby was fishing with his friends which took them to Canada for many years. The family enjoyed ski trips to the mountains of Utah and Montana, the highlight being a ski trip to Sarajevo, Yugoslavia, just after the Olympics in 1984.

Several scuba diving trips were enjoyed in the Caribbean, plus memorable dives in Fiji and the Great Barrier Reef. His favorite part of traveling was meeting and getting to know new people.

He was a skilled carpenter and started Chamberlain Construction, which kept him busy during school vacations for many years. He established a reputation for excellent work for a fair price. His specialty was building decks and remodeling basements and kitchens.

Surviving are his wife Ann "Angi" (nee Boyd) and daughters, Kaarn (Scott) Luce of Libertyville and Whitney (Sean) Mertz of Wadsworth; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Fremont and Jettie Chamberlain.

Carol and I spent time with Jims wife Angi in June. Jim & I spent a lot of time together during High School and were in each others weddings. Jim was a good guy that I think about often.
