Dorothy Lee Hess

GALESBURG - Dorothy Lee Hess, 82, was called home to be with the Lord on 8:25 am, June 27, 2024.

She was born on September 30,1941 in Kansas City, Missouri to Herbert R. and Ava (Beguhn) Buckmaster. She moved to Galesburg, Illinois at about two months of age and has lived all her life here. She attended Galesburg schools and graduated from GI IS in 1959. She then attended Brown’s Business College. She went to work for several jobs and spent 20 years at Dohrn Transfer and Halls Motors. When the)' left town, she went to work at a local attorney's office as a legal secretary for 25 years and retired in 2004.

She had four children: David (Wendy) Hess of Galesburg, Suzanne (Tim) Hess of Sciota, Illinois, Barbara (Dave) Culbertson of Monahan, Texas and Charlie (Anita) Hess of Monroe, Michigan who survive her and is also survived by nine grandchildren; Travis, Hillary, Heather, Max, Kathryn, Abigail, Sierra, Ally and Colby; 13 great grandchildren, Taylor, Austin, Cameron, Michael, Lucy, Wyatt and Urijah, Ezekiel, Skylar, Paisley, Novalee, T.J. and Gabrielle. Also surviving is her brother, Edward and sister-in-law, Erin Buckmaster and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, infant child, two great-grandchildren, brother David and sister-in-law Dee Buckmaster.

Cremation rites will be accorded. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Hurd-Hendricks Funeral Homes and Crematory are assisting the family with arrangements.
