Toulon - James B. Langdon, 83, of Toulon, peacefully passed away at 3:16 p.m. on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Union Hospital in Terre Haute, Indiana.
Jim was born on November 19, 1940, in Galesburg, Illinois. Jim attended Galesburg High School, where he graduated in 1959. Jim worked many jobs while growing up in Galesburg from being a pin setter at the bowling alley, to bagging and stocking groceries at his neighborhood store, to caddying golf at the Soangetaha Country Club. His childhood memories of growing up in Galesburg were near and dear to his heart.
After graduating from Galesburg High, Jim’s family moved to Toulon to work in the Allendale Coal mines. While working at the mines, Jim loaded train cars to move coal, ran the watering and gob truck around the Allendale property, worked as an oiler on the dragline pulleys, and in his later years ran the D9 dozer in the reclamation of the once-mined land. Jim loved his coal mining years and told many stories related to the time he spent working there. In Toulon is where Jim met and married his surviving, loving wife, Sandy (Warren) Langdon on February 4, 1962.
Also surviving are three children: Julie (Robert) Healy of Champaign, Jim (Michelle) Langdon, and Jackie (Andy) Colgan of Toulon; along with seven grandchildren: Maura (Nick) Stutzman of Champaign, Emma Healy and Aidan Healy of Chicago, Jimmy Langdon of Toulon, and Jack, Maeve, and Lucie Colgan of Toulon. He was preceded in death by his parents: Don and Lucille Langdon; his brother: John; and younger sister: Jane.
Jim was a spirited individual who lived throughout his life mainly on his terms. He loved his sports, particularly the Chicago Cubs, Chicago Bears, and the Fighting Illini. Jim was a competitive person who grew up loving to play baseball, basketball, competitive fastpitch softball, billiards, and cards just to name a few. He was also an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and hunting. Jim spent many a summer coaching youth baseball teams where he was well-received and respected by his players and opposing coaches. Jim was also a revitalizing director of the Toulon-LaFayette youth baseball program during the 1980’s.
Private family services will be held. Haskell Funeral and Cremation Services in Wyoming is assisting the family with arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Online condolences for Jim’s family may be left on his tribute wall at www.haskellfuneral.com.

Jim was a dear friend and always felt he needed to "take care of me" after Butch passed. Hadn't kept in close touch the past few years, but always enjoyed our visits. He was for sure one of a kind and will be missed by many. Condolences to Sandy and the family. Please keep in touch. AdalePhilip J Stewart
"Good Guy Gone" and he will be missed. We met on the basketball court behind his house on E Main St. It was bricked while other courts were on dirt. His brother John and even his dad played with us. His dad had a two handed set shot he let fly from way out that usually went through the basket. His other passion was baseball. Besides meeting at the reunions we would talk on the phone every few years. He would talk about his wife Sandy and his kids and their successes. Jim was very proud of his family.
If we ever have one more reunion I hope that Sandy comes so she can hear in person how we all felt about Jim ( Jimmy).
GOD Bless you Sandy and your family,
Phil Stewart

Such a rush of happy memories of Lombard Jr. High and my very first crush at the age of 13. Jimmy Langdon was that person.I tried to get in touch with him a few months ago as I feared he may be ill. Payers for all his friends and family. He was a great person and obviously lived a good life.
