In Memory

Bill Underwood

William Franklin Underwood passed away at Mount Carmel East Hospital on Thursday, Dec. 17, 2009.

Born March 31, 1941, he was the beloved husband for 48 years to Mary Jane Underwood.
Bill dearly loved his surviving son William F. "Woody" Underwood and daughter-in-law Andrea (High) Underwood of Reynoldsburg, and his daughter Susan Jane (Underwood) Carman and son-in-law Gary I. Carman, of Pataskala. He was also "PaPa" to four grandchildren he adored: Austin Underwood, Erik Peyton Underwood, Trey Carman, and Riley Jane Carman. He is also survived by a sister, Kirstin Wilson, her husband Edward Wilson, and their children, all of Kingman, Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Jeanette (Dailey) Underwood and his father, William F. Underwood. Bill graduated from Galesburg, Illinois High School, then attended Mac Murray College in Springfield, Illinois on scholarships, where he met and married Mary Jane. Together they moved to the University of New Mexico where he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. After graduation, he worked for the Atomic Energy Commission in New Mexico, the Saturn/Apollo Space Mission at Cape Kennedy, Florida, and the Poseidon Missile Project in southern California.
In 1968 he and Mary Jane moved to Reynoldsburg, Ohio so he could work in the design-construction of insulation for nuclear power plants while attending Capital Law School at night. After passing the bar, he established a private law practice which he maintained until 2007. He was also both elected and honored to serve 7 terms, 28 years, as the City Attorney for Reynoldsburg.
In his few years of retirement, he especially enjoyed friends and family, his home in Hilton Head, South Carolina, and traveling.
