Mr. Darold E. Austin, 70, of Galesburg, Ill. died at 5:25 a.m. Friday, August 19, 2011 at his home.
He was born May 25, 1941 in Beardstown, Ill. the son of Zelah Earl and Dolly L. Kennedy Austin. He married Alice A. Sedivy on July 11, 1970 in Savanna, Ill. She survives.
Also surviving is his mother, Dolly Morris of Gerlaw, Ill.; three sons, Randall (Tawnya) Austin of Argyle, Texas, Harvey (Theresa) Haring of East Galesburg, Ill., and Richard (Brenda) Austin of Wataga, Ill.; two daughters, Linda (Andy) Denning of Erie, Ill. and Patricia (John) Oudekerk of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sisters, Peggy (Terry) Stevenson of Galesburg and Mary Ann (Lynn) Beck of Washington, Ill.; eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his step-father, Jube Morris and father.
He served in the Navy from 1958-1962 as a 2nd class Engineman, primarily stationed on the Destroyer Harlan R. Dickson.
Darold worked as a brakeman and conductor for the Burlington-Northern Railroad for 37 years, retiring in 2000. He was a member and board member of the Galesburg Rifle Club. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and Citizen Committee to Bare Arms. He was a member of the Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285. He loved to hunt, fish, boat and precision shoot.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 23, 2011 at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel. Rev. Robert Franeck will officiate. Visitation will be 5 to 7 p.m. Monday evening at the chapel. Burial will be in Wataga Cemetery with Military Rites by Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post 285.
