Mattie Mixon

GALESBURG - Mattie Mixon, 65, 65 Arnold St., died at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday (Feb. 20, 2007) in OSF St. Francis Medical Center, Peoria.

She was born July 27, 1941, in Bolivar, Tenn., the daughter of A.C. and Laura Spinks.

She married Lester W.T. Mixon. He preceded her in death.

Surviving are three sons, Lester Mixon Jr. and Leslie Mixon, both of Galesburg, and Heith Mixon, Des Moines, Iowa; three daughters, Antoinette Tate, Galesburg, the Rev. Yvette Mixon and Yolanda Mason, both of Des Moines, Iowa; 24 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Keith Alan Mixon.

She moved to Galesburg at the age of 10. She graduated from Galesburg High School.

She was a social worker at Head Start.

She was a charter member of Lighthouse Baptist Church and was a member of the mother's board, taught Sunday school and worked with the choir.

Funeral will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Church of the Open Bible, Galesburg, with the Rev. Sam Owens officiating. Visitation will be from noon until the service at the church. Burial will be in East Linwood Cemetery.
